Successful
symposium! Pöyry presents PPP model for bridge constructions
Solutions for
civil engineering structures were discussed under the subject
of "Municipal infrastructure and Public Private Partnership
(PPP)" on 17.01.2007
On Wednesday,
17.01.2007, about 120 participants gathered at the Maritim
pro Arte Hotel in Berlin to discuss the highly charged subject
of required investments for civil engineering structures of
public authorities together with representatives of all stakeholders,
i.e. public principals, contractors, scientists, consultants
and banks. Dr Heiko Stiepelmann, deputy manager of the Main
Association of the German Construction Industry, presided
over a program of interesting contributions.
For Mr Malte Müller-Wrede, lawyer and manager of the Müller-Wrede
& Partner law firm, and Mr Johann Schmieder, manager of the
consulting and engineering firm, Pöyry Infra GmbH, PPP constitutes
a good alternative procurement option worth considering. For
this reason, they developed the Basic Renewal Model for
Bridges (G-Model - German: Grunderneuerungsmodell) which
comprises planning, financing, construction and upkeep of
operation and thus all life cycles of a bridge. The goal is
to preserve and secure existing bridges. Federal funds from
a special program for bridges could be envisaged. Quite apart
from that, the economic efficiency and a respective availability
model safeguard a bridge pool. One or several responsible
authorities could be considered for the pool and/or jointly
transfer this assignment to a third party. The bridge pool
consisting of different bridges and respective preservation
conditions is tendered under PPP criteria for a period of
25 to 30 years.
The developers are sure that the G-Model, which is easily
handled, will provide an important contribution to traffic
safety by facilitating irrefutable investments of the authorities
responsible for bridges and helping to guarantee the safety
of beneficiaries. The event also offered extensive opportunities
for the exchange of ideas and facilitated personal contacts
in a pleasant atmosphere.

The Finnish Pöyry Group - with its three business areas Energy,
Forest Industry and Infrastructure and Environment - ranks
among the leading consulting companies worldwide. By the end
of 2006 the group will have finished the unification of its
worldwide market entry under the name of Pöyry.
Due to this change the German subsidiaries BPI- Consult GmbH,
GKW- Gruppe and Elektrowatt Enkono GmbH will have "Pöyry"
in their company name.
In detail the companies will operate under the following
names:
| BPI
Consult GmbH |
Pöyry Infra GmbH
|
|
HB-Verkehrsconsult GmbH |
Pöyry
Infra Traffic (estimated August 2006)
|
|
GKW Holding GmbH |
Pöyry GKW Germany GmbH

The intention of this unification
is to strengthen the market appearance of the Pöyry Group,
to improve the collaboration among the several group-subsidiaries
and to combine the advantage of a worldwide network with
the proximity to customers and the regional competence
of 1.400 employees at 25 German-speaking locations to
an efficient overall concept. |

Infra GmbH - exhibitor at PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE 2006
This year PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE - a comprehensive knowledge
and contact platform for the public and private infrastructure
sectors - took place for the first time.
From September 12-14, 2006 the Convention Centre (exhibition
ground Hanover) opened its doors to welcome policy-makers
out of the private sector and public authorities. The combination
of congress with a specialist trade fair offered numerous
contact and networking opportunities to discuss about planning,
financing, construction, maintenance and operation of public
infrastructure projects. Next to well-known building companies,
operating companies, consulting companies, law firms as well
as commercial- and investment banks Pöyry Infra GmbH presented
itself at its own booth.
As a general contractor for infrastructure projects Pöyry
Infra can look back on more than 15 years of experience in
the area of PPP-Consulting. Experts out of the business-,
legal- and engineering sector were available at the info booth
to consult, inform and discuss with interested parties, associates
and customers.
Especially against the background of the change of company
name in July 2006, it was very important for Pöyry Infra (formerly
BPI-Consult GmbH) to present its new name and corporate identity
accordingly.

Promotion
of sidings - direct access to the railway system
 |
The German Federal Ministry of Transport intends to
increase the number of companies using rail freight
transportation. The guideline for the promotion of new
and upgraded private sidings as well as their reactivation
which will run initially up to 2009 is supposed to contribute
to this goal.
About 30 representatives of companies and business promoters
from the whole Weser-Ems region were informed on the
program, the technology and the costs of sidings at
a special workshop at the CCI Osnabrück-Emsland.
As outlined by the speaker, Christian Ziehank of Pöyry
Infra GmbH Hanover, the guideline primarily addresses
shippers desiring direct access to the German railway
system via a private siding. If permanent usage of the
new infrastructure is foreseeable, start-up financing
of up to 50 percent of the investment costs is possible
via the Federation.
The program makes a total of about 32 million Euros
annually available. The competent authorising authority
is Eisenbahn-Bundesamt (EBA) in Bonn. The EBA Internet
pages (http://www.eba.bund.de,
search word: Gleisanschlussförderrichtlinie) contain
further information concerning the application procedure.

Infra presents the final design for the motorway Morine -
Merdare to Kosovo´s President Rugova
 |
At an official meeting on Thursday, 27th October 2005
in Prishtine, Mr Dietrich Rudolph as representative
of Pöyry Infra GmbH together with the Minister
of Transport and Communication, Mr Qemail Ahmeti presented
the detailed design for the 117 km long motorway Morina
- Prizren - Prishtine - Merdare. As essential part of
route 7 and as future part of the South-East European
Core Road Networt, this motorway will connect Kosovo
to the Port of Durres in Albania and the Pan European
Road Corridor X in Serbia near Nis with planned extension
to Sofia in Bulgaria.
|
"It´s an event for us and this shows that we are able to
have our state, to make our state and we deserve the independence,
which should be done as soon as possible", said President
Rugova on Thurday and emphasized again the high importance
of this project for Kosovo.
In particular he is very proud of the fact that the motorway
was planned according to International and European standards.
Therefore he congratulated Pöyry-representative Dietrich
Rudolph for this effort.
The official beginning of the construction period of the
motorway is planned for spring 2006, but Mr Rudolph told already
that the section will lead through the mountain area of Carraleva
in the south of Prishtine. Here, three tunnels (two longer
than 2 km) and 15 bridges and viaducts will be constructed.
Planning period: 2004 - 2005, Volume: approx. 3.2 Mio. €

Combined
Media Crossing has recently successfully passed the patent
approval procedure at the German Patent and Trademark Office
(DPMA)
Rising
steel and falling concrete prices have led to higher demand
of cost-effective solutions in the market and an innovative
idea: The Combined Media Link. This invention has recently
successfully passed the patent approval procedure at the German
Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA).
Combined
Media Crossing concerns a kit of prefabricated steel concrete
elements which serve both as carrier
pipe crossing for surface and waste water and/or protective
conduit crossing for lines under traffic routes and traffic
areas.
Apart from an increase in flexibility - since the prefabricated
elements can be used both in drainage construction and underground
cable construction as well as a combination
of both and since there is nothing comparable in the market
- there are also advantages for construction logistics and
plant operators.
In addition, Combined Media Crossing optimises the frequently
required substantial cover and can be applied without any
special machines in open construction.
A considerable reduction in planning, production and maintenance
costs can be achieved, as well as a substantial reduction
in construction time due to the simplified production process
in combination with type statics.
Being
purely a service company Pöyry Infra GmbH offers planning
and consulting services but no building materials.

Construction
price of Mecklenburg Western Pomerania 2004: Honour for Pöyry
Infra
 |
Pöyry Infra GmbH together with the sub-contractor
netzwerk.architekten is awarded with the national building
prize 2004 for the constructrion project "underground
passenger station of the city of Rostock, Germany".
For the reconstruction and new construction of this
main station of Rostock it was necessary to construct
underground transport facilities and structural engineering.
Underground facilities often cause the problem that
artificial lighting in tunnels and underground stations
can create a depressing atmosphere.
Preliminary the challenge was to arrange the station
user friendly. This contain a lightening with much as
possible daylight. To increase the buildings permeability
to air the so called "light trap" was accessible vitrifications
of the platforms have been installed. Its glass roofing
gives a maximum of light permeability and provides by
the optic a high recognising value of the station of
Rostock - a really convincing engineering achievement!
|
Design: 1999 - 2001
Construction works: 2001 - 2003
Costs: 37 million Euro Description:
The centre reception building of the station has been designed
to act as a continuous airspace. It allows all levels of the
building from the tram station on the lowest level to the
Deutsche Bahn platforms on the highest level to relate spacially.
To increase the light permeability of this building called
"light trap", the highest floor was built with glass platforms
under a glass roofing.
